Makar Samkranti is the day when Sun transits to capricorn. Capricorn is in Sanskrit Makar and Samkranti means transition. This day is very auspicious day of the year as Sun inclines towards 6 month long uttarayan and the auspicious period of Yagyas and Sankars begins. Sun is the most powerful planet (star) of the solar family and has great influence on our body and mind.
